Mildred Baines was a local Burnaby artist who passed away of cancer in 2009. Mildred’s personal motivation was the pursuit of professional refinement, motivated by a passion to utilize her talents to their fullest potential. She attended her first year at the Vancouver School of Art in 1971, and went on to pursue a career in graphic and web design. Her interest in the visual and creative arts permeated her personal life, as she painted in her spare time in addition to writing and illustrating children’s stories. Shortly before she died, Mildred Baines donated some of her artworks to the Burnaby Art Gallery, including two landscape paintings to the Art Rental & Sales program – one in oil and the other in watercolour which, along with acrylic, were her preferred mediums.
